PICK OF THE DAY
Sociedad - Salzburg
Tip : GG (both to score)
Odd : 1.75
FT :2:2 WIN!!!
It is becoming more and more common for the clubs in Europe’s top
leagues that qualify for the Europa League on an inconsistent bases to
struggle with the balance of domestic and European football, to which
Real Sociedad are a prime example. Thursday’s hosts finished sixth in La
Liga last season, yet now they sit fourteenth, just over halfway
through the campaign and it’s no surprise that their participation in
the Europa League has lead to poorer performances domestically. Red Bull
Salzburg provide the opposition over two legs for the Spanish club, and
the leaders of the Austrian Bundesliga have not suffered from their
participation in European competition, as tends to be the case with
teams playing outside of the top five or six leagues in Europe.
The
pair have never come face to face before, in fact Real Sociedad take on
Austrian opposition for the first time in their history on Thursday
evening. Salzburg have played against four different Spanish sides over
twelve games and their record reads three wins, one draw, and eight
defeats against La Liga teams.
Heading into the 1st leg it’s the
visitors who claim the title of form favourites, after RB Salzburg
remained unbeaten in their last six matches with two wins and four
draws. Real Sociedad have been going through a very difficult spell in
the league with five defeats and one win from their last six matches,
conceding and scoring on a regular basis but only once doing enough to
claim any points. The visitors have proven themselves to be a hard team
to beat, not just of late, but also in the Europa League this season
where they secured three wins, three draws, and no defeats during the
group stage.
Willian José has scored five goals in Europe this
season for Real Sociedad, and his absence is going to be felt on
Thursday, with Januzaj and Vela also ruled out through injury. Israeli
striker Dabbur top scores in the Europa League for Salzburg with five
goals to his name, and he will provide the focal point going forward, as
he has done in the league with thirteen goals.
We’re confident
that both teams will score in this game as each have looked very good
going forward in recent weeks, and less convincing at the back. Dabbur
makes for a great choice as anytime goalscorer as he is at the forefront
of the majority of attacking moves Salzburg create, and in terms of a
final score. we’re backing the visitors to win 2-1, but in case of a
draw why not back Salzburg with a double chance bet.
