This is the first of two home games in the space of five days for Cardiff and it’s key they take full advantage to keep themselves right in the scrap for 2nd place in the Championship. This on paper is the easier of the two but Bolton are fighting for their lives and certainly will put in a fully committed display.
The Lancashire club have taken four points from their last two games, both of which were against top six clubs. Their form over the last few months has seen them give themselves a great chance of beating the drop and they are now up to 19th place. However with just a two point advantage on the relegation zone, they still have a long way to go if they are to retain their Second tier status.
Significantly when looking at this match, their recent revival has almost exclusively been built on strong home form and they’ve not been as convincing on the road, which makes it hard to fancy them here. They average just 0.57 points per game away this term, which is the worst away record in the division and four of their last five games away from the Macron have ended in defeat.
Cardiff meanwhile average 2.14 points per home game. Only Villa and Wolves can better that and they’ve only suffered two defeats at the Cardiff City Stadium this term. Heading into this game they’ve played fewer home matches than every other side in the division so that bodes well for their chances of keeping on the heels of Derby and Aston Villa and they ought to secure maximum points from this one.
The chances of a Bluebirds’ clean sheet also look pretty good. They’ve an excellent 50% home clean sheet ratio this term in the league and only two sides have conceded fewer Championship goals than them. Bolton meanwhile have failed to score in a huge 57% of their away league games and with just 0.93 goals per game overall, they have the 3rd worst goalscoring record.
Therefore we have strong reason to fancy the hosts emerging victorious here and they’ll be confident of their chances of keeping things tight at their own end. Going for Cardiff to Win to Nil looks like the smart bet.
Bolton are playing with belief right now though and are unlikely to roll over as they might have done earlier in the season.
