Sevilla welcomes Athletic in a battle for… nowhere… Failing to win on the road since September 24th you can’t have hopes for playing in Europe next season. Sevilla are playing much better at the Sanchez Pizjuan but this ain’t enough for them. Now they lay in the 12th place 9 points to the 7th Betis and they should be hoping that the 8th place gives a ticket to Europe as well. Still, they have a fine opportunity to win today and shorten the gap to 7th Betis in 6 and on Friday to reduce it even further as long as they are playing the Sevilla city derby against the beticos!

But there are too many assumptions here and the problem for Sevilla is Athletic de Bilbao. The Basques are not playing well not even close to the latter amazing campaign. They suffer and they suffered last Monday against Granada in front of their fans. Aduriz scored at last after 750 minutes of draught period and the good news today is that he is fit to feature after fully recovering an injury that forced him out against Granada.

Bielsa confirmed his lineup: Iraizoz - Iraola, Gurpegui, Ekiza, Laporte - San José, De Marcos, Herrera - Ibai Gómez, Aduriz, Muniain.

Susaeta is out suspended but Susaeta was in terrible form recently and it would be better to take a break. Iturraspe is back. On the other hand Sevilla are missing their best and most in-form player, Jesus Navas, who is suspended. Navas has been by far Sevilla’s MVP in the season and he was the only one who was given high rates from Spanish media elmundo deportivo and marca for his recent performances. So, Navas is a loss today for Sevilla.

It is a fact that Sevilla are playing much better at home but it is also a fact that their recent rivals are nothing extraordinary. Zaragoza, Celta, Depor, Vallecano, Granada, these teams visited the Sanchez Pizjuan recently and all lost. Athletic should make a stronger opponent and the most amazing are the odds offered. Odds on Athletic are lower than the teams just mentioned had but odds on Athletic are higher than Betis’ and Valladolid’s and the same as Mallorca’s who visited Sevilla earlier in the season. Odds on Athletic are the definition of the word ‘value’ in betting.
