PICK OF THE DAY
Udinese - Bologna
Tip : 1&GG (home win and both teams to score)

Bologna have clearly checked out for this Serie A campaign, following three straight defeats. The latest of those, a 2-1 loss at home to Chievo, showed just how little the hosts have to play for ahead of this weekend’s final round of league fixtures. Bologna are comfortable in mid-table and have nothing to focus on, but the same can’t be said for this weekend’s opponents Udinese. Can the hosts make the most of home advantage as they look to beat the drop?
Udinese shouldn’t be in this position ahead of the final match, having climbed up the table back when Massimo Oddo took charge mid-season. However, his strong start was followed by a run so disastrous that he only spent a couple of months in the hotseat, briefly climbing the Serie A standings with Udinese before seeing them slump in to relegation danger.
The Zebrette were worried about one of the worst collapses in Serie A history, but a victory at Hellas Verona last weekend did manage to boost their chances of staying up. That one win put them up to 15th, and now all they need is another final day victory to survive. However, with their head to head record against their relegation rivals really poor, they can’t risk a slip up.
Udinese has been priced up as heavy favourites, and their desperation means they’re likely to succeed. The fact that the Zebrette have scored in all but one of their 17 meetings with bottom half opposition also boosts their chances of staying up on the final day, as long as they can block the Bologna attack. However, that’s obviously much easier said than done, with the hosts going through a tough spell at the back which has landed them in danger of the drop. They’re without a clean sheet in their last eight at home, and that’s something Bologna can exploit.
The visitors may not be in need of results, but they have managed to score in their last three defeats, which did see them host AC Milan and visit Juventus. Their bottom half scoring record is also impressive, finding the net in 14 of 17 trips. With the home side conceding in 78% of their home matches this season, we think that they’ll have defensive trouble even with their need for a victory. We think both teams to score is the best way to go on this game, which is good value given neither have covered themselves in glory at the back of late. We’re also going for a 2-1 victory for the hosts, as we see them getting the result they need to stay in Serie A.
