PICK OF THE DAY
Roma - Juventus
Tip : GG (both to score)
Odd : 1.70
FT : ??
Juventus were in great form as they claimed a 4-0 win over AC Milan on Wednesday night, as they won the Coppa Italia. While they suffered a last eight exit in the Champions League, the Old Lady of Italian football haven’t lost it domestically, as they continue to dominate. Their success has led many to suggest that Max Allegri will seek a new challenge after sweeping the board with Juve, but will he first land yet another league title with his current side when they visit the capital on Sunday night?
Juventus are all but guaranteed the title, as they’d need to lose 5-0 in their last two games to give Napoli any chance of overhauling them on goal difference. Once they finally get over the line in a difficult campaign, they’ll have sealed yet another league and cup double. This will be the fourth straight year in which Juve have won both of the big Italian trophies, with Allegri landing them in every season with the club since he took charge in 2014. To make that more impressive, they’d only won two doubles in their entire history before he took charge.
With Juventus six points clear of Napoli, all they need is a point in this trip to secure the title. Meanwhile, Roma are continuing their chase for a Champions League spot, and they’ll be guaranteed a top four finish with a point. With that in mind, it’s hard not to see these two playing out a draw on Sunday night, even if there’s a rivalry between them. You’d imagine the Giallorossi would settle for a point, having lost all but one of their meetings with Serie A’s top nine. Given how it plays in to the pair’s hands, we’re backing this one to finish all square.
Of course, Juventus come in to this one fresh from putting four goals past one of Italy’s top sides. They’ve scored 10 times in their last three games, having found the net in 94% of their away trips this season. They should score against a Roma outfit who have conceded 68% of their league goals this season at home, conceding at home to every side from Sampdoria and above at this ground.
However, Jvuentus have conceded 70% of their goals away from home, having shipped in their last three trips to face Roma here. They’ve kept a single clean sheet in their last seven league games, having shipped in three in a row on their travels. We expect Roma to strike here, after scoring 14 times in their last five matches. In their last four here they’ve caused trouble at the back for Barcelona and Liverpool, and we expect them to score on Sunday, which has us backing both teams to score.
