PICK OF THE DAY
Oldham - Wimbledon
Tip : 3+ (over 2.5)
Odd : 2.10
FT : 0:0 Lost
Another
match under Richie Wellens brought about another win for Oldham on Saturday
afternoon. Against a Rochdale team who’re better than the current league table
suggests, Oldham once again showcased their improvement, as they ran out worthy
3-1 winners. Since Wellens has come in, Latics have dramatically improved going
forward, that’s for sure. Oldham aren’t the only ones who’re on the up;
Wimbledon continued their unbeaten run at the weekend, as they also won by three
goals to one, beating Bristol Rovers away from home.
One
things for sure, Oldham have well and truly shed their old tag of being one of
League One’s more boring teams. Under Wellens, Latics are fast becoming the
third division’s great entertainers. They’re playing attacking football, scoring
goals and winning matches. As a fan, could you ask for more?
Ahead
of this match, the bet that stands out is ‘Over 2.5 Goals’. With this new
attacking philosophy in place, it’s easy to see Oldham continuing their run of
both scoring and conceding plenty of goals.
Having
previously been one of the league’s lowest scorers, Oldham have quickly become
one of the most potent sides in the entire division. As things stand, only
Oxford and Rotherham have scored more goals, while only four teams have scored
more on home soil. However, as is expected when you play such an open game,
plenty of goals have been going in at the wrong end too, something that should
certainly spur Tuesday’s visitors on. Currently, Oldham have conceded more goals
than anyone else in League One, while they also have the second-worst defensive
record on home soil.
Unsurprisingly,
‘Over 2.5 Goals’ has landed in 76% of Oldham’s matches this season. What’s more,
they’ve scored in every match under Wellens so far, while only two of those ten
in League One have seen less than three goals go in.
The
arrival of Eoin Doyle on loan from Preston, who has scored 12 goals in League
One this season, has certainly helped things going forward, while a great
emphasis on scoring goals rather than keeping them out has played a big part
too. Against a Wimbledon team who’ve looked poor defensively, especially on the
road, Oldham should be confident of keeping their impressive scoring form going,
though, don’t expect them to do so without encountering a few defensive
problems.
Keeping
goals out has been a problem for Wimbledon, who’ve kept just two clean sheets on
the road, but their attacking efforts have recently improved The fact that they
managed to score three away to Bristol Rovers last time out will have given Neal
Ardley’s men confidence, while Oldham’s recent defensive record also gives them
reason to believe. Like Oldham, Wimbledon are expected to have a go, and
ultimately contribute to what should be another high-scoring affair at Boundary
Park.
