It’s very much crunch-time as far as Scotland’s World Cup hopes are concerned. They’ve done well to get themselves back in the mix but realistically they still have to win this game and most likely also win in Slovenia on Sunday if they are to secure 2nd place in this group. That’s a tall order for Gordon Strachan’s men and although they start this game as favourites, goals at both ends look likely.
Scotland have made genuine improvements in 2017 and remain unbeaten this calendar year. Their attacking threat looks to have increased and they’ve netted at least twice in all of their last three matches. That includes a 2-2 draw with group leaders England, when Leigh Griffiths scored two spectacular free-kicks to nearly seal what would have been a famous win.
The Celtic man is likely to lead the line here and he has scored on his last two appearances at Hampden in an international jersey, while he’s also scored in 2 of his last 3 games at club level.
Slovakia do currently hold 2nd place and have a home game against Malta to come so they really are in the box-seat as far as that is concerned. They’ve shown willingness to be a bit adventurous, even at Wembley last time out and both teams have scored in 3 of their 4 away games in this group. It’s just 1 clean sheet in 6 matches for them though and there are clear defensive vulnerabilities that Scotland could exploit.
Overall backing Both Teams to Score at Evens looks to offer value. My call is 2:2, and over 3.5 is payed 4.20, GL!
