PICKS OF THE DAY
SERBIA - Nigeria
Tip : GG (both to score)
Odd : 1.85
FT : ??
Well, it is true that we did bad against Moroco, but I believe that this team can to something... there were soe rumour about atmosphere in our team but everyone confirm that everything is great there so I expect answer from them... Nigeria is great side, they won against Argentina, but also against Poland, most of them played or still play in Premier league, so they have great experience no doubt in that... I think Krstajic will field strongest posible squad, squad that will start first match on WC, but also think that NIgeria will have response, so goals in both nets, and Serbia to win at the end, to prove their point, my call is 2:1, GL!
Romania - Sweden
Tip : Sweden AH 0 (DNB 2)
Odd : 2.15
FT : ??
Many sides over this international break have opted for matches against opponents from other continents but this is an all-European affair, which will take place in Craiova. Sweden are busy building up for the 2018 World Cup and they are hoping to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat against Chile in a friendly last week.
Rumours that Zlatan Ibrahimović could return to the international fold in time for the World Cup continue to do the rounds and that certainly would be a boost for Sweden. However, they did come through a very tough path to reach the finals in Zlatan’s absence so there is clearly a fair amount of quality in this current Swedish squad in any case.
They finished above the Netherlands in their group before dumping Italy out in the play-offs so Janne Andersson’s men ought to fancy their chances here, despite being underdogs against Romania. Sweden’s away record since Euro 2016 is a bit mixed but they’ve won 4 of their 9 road games since then and that includes notable friendly wins away to Hungary and Portugal, which should give them confidence.
Motivation shouldn’t be an issue with players battling to secure a ticket on the plane to Russia. For Romania though, they don’t have another game scheduled until September when the UEFA Nations League kicks off so this might be quite a low-key affair as far as they are concerned.
They did win a friendly in Israel last week but it is quite an experimental squad and you wonder how it will go against stronger opponents here. There are 11 players in the Romanian squad who are yet to make it to 5 caps so they clearly are looking towards the future to a large extent.
They’ve only won 6 of their last 18 international matches and have really lost their way since qualifying for Euro 2016. They’ve not been as convincing defensively and a lack of quality remains a concern at the other end. It’s just 6 wins from 14 home internationals too so they’ve not really been making enough of home advantage in recent times.
Romania may be slight favourites here but Sweden have shown themselves to be the better side and backing Sweden 0.0 Asian Handicap could be the best approach to this one, especially given the Scandinavians have only lost 1 of their last 6 away friendlies.
England - Italy
Tip : 3+ (over 2.5)
Odd : 2.50
FT : ??
England is coming from a decent performance against Holland and there's no doubt that the side will want to continue in the same manner. Italians have a lot of things to worry and are generally in lot sorts of problems - but knowing that it won't bring them much joy in case they just try to defend here.
I believe the game will be even more open than what the odds suggest with the English side themselves being able to score couple of goals for sure. Italians should respond with more open approach, something that promises these current odds to be quite valuable.
