PICK OF THE DAY
M Gladbach - Dortmund
Tip : GG&3+ (both to score & over 2.5)
Odd : 1.90
FT : ??
With no European campaign to focus on, Borussia Monchengladbach
started the first half of the season among the best within the top four
in the Bundesliga. However, 2018 doesn’t seem to be their year, and four
defeats from five league matches so far (W1 L4) has seen them fall away
from the rest of the pack. Coach Dieter Hecking will no doubt be
looking to change his formula after his side failed to score in three
consecutive matches for the first time since 2016, with top scorer
Raffael likely to resume his role up front alongside attacking partner
in crime Lars Stindl, after a short spell sidelined.
Borussia
Dortmund hosted Atalanta in the first leg of their round of 32 Europa
League tie on Thursday night, and what a performance that turned out to
be! With the Bundesliga all but wrapped up by Bayern Munich, the BVB
look to be set on going all out in Europe in the search to finish the
season with a trophy, and a late comeback to seal the match 3-2 will
definitely be considered satisfactory. Since the departure of star man
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the arrival of Michy Batshuayi has proven to
be an instant hit, both on the pitch and with the fans. Dortmund have
won all three matches he has featured in, and with club hero Marco Reus
making his return last weekend, it looks like things are starting to
look up again for the BVB.
In terms of betting, lots of goals and
at both ends looks to be worth a punt here. Borussia Dortmund have
re-found their scoring form after a tough patch – in fact, Dortmund have
scored two goals or more in all of their last four competitive outings –
while hosts Borussia Monchengladbach aren’t in the best shape
defensively. Gladbach have kept just one clean sheet over their last 14
Bundesliga outings, and their record at Borussia Park isn’t much better
either – both teams have scored in 6 of their last 8 matches at home in
the league. Now while Gladbach haven’t found the back of the net in
three Bundesliga outings, they have failed to score in just 18% of their
home matches, which bodes well against a team like Dortmund, who have
kept just one clean sheet on the road since September.
Who takes
the points here though? Well with Marco Reus back among the ranks for
this match against his former club, Dortmund should be as dangerous as
ever. New addition Michy Batshuayi has settled down well to life in
Germany, and he is the man in form here. He’s been the scorer of 5 of
Dortmund’s 8 goals since arriving, and against a leaky Gladbach back
line, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see the Belgian find the back of
the net again – our tip for an anytime goalscorer bet. With Gladbach
looking largely deflated in their fall from grace, it’s hard to see them
stopping a Dortmund side that looks back to their best going forward.
Our prediction: a 3-1 Borussia Dortmund win.
