PICK OF THE DAY
Milan - Lazio

Lazio continued their impressive form in midweek, strengthening their
place inside the top four. They hammered in form Udinese 3-0 at the
Stadio Olimpico, putting them three points clear in third place. They
aren’t too far off the title race, they’re eight points off Napoli
heading in to this weekend with plenty of time to go. The Aquile will be
focused on securing a place in the Champions League as their priority
this term, and a victory at AC Milan on Sunday will push them even
closer to that goal.
Milan are also pushing for Europe, but
they’re not the top four contenders that everyone expected them to be.
The Rossoneri have struggled this season, but their recent wins have
pushed them up to seventh, with the sides around them dropping points.
They have still got a 12 point gap to close before they can reach the
top four, but it does feel like that ambition has been written off by
the Rossoneri, despite their summer spending spree.
While Milan
are struggling to make the top four, that doesn’t mean this will be an
easy trip for Lazio. The hosts are still expected to pose a threat based
on their recent form. However, the Aquile are in great shape
themselves. They’ve hit 13 goals across their last three league matches.
They’ve scored 20 times across their last six matches, so they will
terrorise a Milan defence which has yet to settle after being assembled
in the summer.
Lazio have averaged 2.55 goals per game on their
travels this term, and that form should continue when they take on Milan
this weekend. While the hosts have bounced back with victories over
Cagliari and Crotone, this is a much sterner test. Gennaro Gattuso’s
record with the Rossoneri has been mixed, and they’ve had some high
profile slip ups of late, including dropping points against the current
bottom two.
On top of that, Milan’s season has seen them struggle
to prove themselves at the highest level. While they’ve been picking up
points against bottom half sides, it’s been a completely different story
for them when they meet elite teams. The Rossoneri have lost all of
their meetings with the top eight sides in Serie A this term, including a
4-1 thumping by Lazio earlier in the campaign. With that in mind, we
think the visitors are fantastic value to pick up all three points, but even double chance pays great...
