PICK OF THE DAY
Newcastle - Crystal Palace
Tip : GG (both to score)
Odd : 1.90
FT : 1:0 Lost
Newcastle’s torrid start to their return to the Premier League seems to be well and truly over now, with the Tyneside club looking a lot more confident going forward now and picking up the results to go with it.
Last weekend they earned a point away at Southampton, and while they will be disappointed to concede two against the goalshy Saints, it’s not a bad result at all in the grand scheme of things. The Magpies have now won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six outings in the Premier League.
This has pushed Rafa Benitez’ men up to 9th in the table, and it’s looking like a promising time for them with three very winnable matches coming up. Add that to Mike Ashley’s decision to put the club up for sale and you have some very happy fans at the moment.
Crystal Palace’s fans are less happy, but still considerably happier than they were a week ago. They went into their home match against Chelsea pointless and goalless after seven gameweeks, leaving the vast majority of people expecting another dismal defeat on Saturday. However, they pulled off one of the shocks of the season so far as they not only scored against the Premier League champions but beat them 2-1.
Most of the plaudits go to Wilfried Zaha on his return from injury. He put in a fantastic display to inspire his team to victory, and given that he got through that match unscathed, we could see another improved showing on Saturday.
Newcastle’s defence isn’t up to much either. They have managed just two clean sheets in all competitions this season and have conceded seven goals in five games at St James’ Park. With Crystal Palace’s new found confidence flowing I expect The Eagles to get a goal, but the fact they haven’t kept a clean sheet all season is a worry for their back line so backing Both Teams to Score looks a great choice here.
In the end Newcastle should have enough to get the win at home. They have won two of their four home matches in the league this season, and their two failures came against Spurs and Liverpool, so we’re going for a Newcastle Win and Over 2.5 Goals at 4.15 along with a 2-1 correct score predictions at 10.00.
