Coach Sanchez made his players run like crazy last game away at Montpellier. Because of that, in the 1st half they were quite competitive, but in the 2nd half everything collapsed. Players could barely breath, revealing their poor physical condition. Under these circumstances, determination and motivation are useless, if the means to achieve it completely lack. In the defense they will once again miss central defender Isimat Mirin, meaning that young and hesitant Rose will start again, adding insecurity to an already shaky defense. Upfront forwards Puyol and Le Tallec are still injured, so Valenciennes will use either Aboubakar or N'Guette. Aboubakar is useless as he's always walking around the pitch like is a boulevard or something, while N'Guette even if he's got qualities, is too young (18) and inexperienced.
Valenciennes' midfield is also in crisis, as important winger Danic never found a rhythm after a long injury, newly arrived playmaker Melikson hasn't adapted and key winger Dossevi gradually lost form. All in all Valenciennes is the worst Ligue1 team in 2013.
Marseille and Lyon, St Etienne's rivals for Champions League, are completely out of form. So the only thing logical for St Etienne is to keep on with the lucid performances and exploit rivals' bad moment. And this is exactly what they are doing. They are confident and solid in every single game. The team has depth and all players can be successfully replaced. Like forward Brandao for instance, suspended last round and this round as well. Aubameyang will play as a sole striker in his absence, having behind him 3 offensive midfielders. Guests' offensive department has enough skills to create chaos in Valenciennes' defense once every 5 minutes...At the back central defender Bayal Sall and will most probably take Zouma's place, increasing the defensive power.
Just like last round, hosts will start very determined but pretty soon they'll be running out of fuel, leaving St Etienne in charge to make their usual pleasant and effective game.
