PICK OF THE DAY
Arsenal - West Ham
Tip : 1&GG (home win and both to score)
Odd : 3.00
FT : 4:1 WIN!!!
Arsenal looked resurgent just a couple of weeks ago, but last weekend they reverted back to their old selves with a dismal display as they lost 2-1 at Newcastle. They remain without a win on the road in the Premier League in 2018, and it’s that form that has taken them out of the running for the top four.
The Gunners currently sit 6th in the table, some 14 points adrift of arch rivals Tottenham in 4th position and six adrift of Chelsea in 5th. To make matters even worse, Burnley are just two points below them and in excellent form, so a top six finish is anything but guaranteed for Arsene Wenger’s men.
Prior to their loss against Newcastle they were unbeaten in seven competitive games though, winning six of them. This includes their Europa League campaign as well, and with a tie coming up against Atletico Madrid on Thursday we could see some rotations for the hosts.
West Ham’s season is looking slightly more promising now. Their 3-0 loss to Burnley back in March looked like it could be the start of a complete collapse for The Hammers, with numerous pitch invasions and calls for the board to be held accountable for the decline of the club.
Fortunately the players responded well, beating Southampton 3-0 in their next home match and then drawing away to Chelsea earlier this month. They failed to beat Stoke on Monday, but they are now seven points clear of the relegation zone and will feel confident in their ability to survive.
We can’t foresee a West Ham win here. Arsenal may be in poor form on the road but they have only lost two home games in the Premier League this season, and those came against the top two in the table. They have won 13 of their 17 home games in the league, whilst West Ham have managed just two wins from their 17 trips away this season.
Three of The Hammers last four have ended in defeat too, although they have managed to get on the scoresheet in every away game in 2018. In fact, David Moyes’ men have scored in 12 of their 17 trips away in the league this season and have netted away goals in five of their six games against the current top seven. This makes a Both Teams to Score bet look great value for money.
We’re still expecting Arsenal to emerge victorious though, and it’s expected to be a high scoring affair. Each of The Gunners last eight home league games have seen at least three goals, as have six of West Ham’s last eight away days. This makes an Arsenal Win and both teams to score look attractive, so we’re going for that alongside a 3-1 correct score predictions.
