PICK OF THE DAY
Sunderland - Barnsley
Tip : 1
Odd : 2.20
FT : ??
Sunderland’s 1-0 victory at Forest
last time out was a huge result for them, particularly with the other
teams at the bottom also doing well. This is a massive game too. The
bottom four has been pretty constant over the first half of the season
but a Sunderland victory here would move them above Barnsley and leave
the Tykes in big trouble.
With
the likes of Hull and QPR also falling back into the pack, the picture
is now a bit brighter for Chris Coleman’s side. They may only have won
one home game in 2017 but that did come in December and they have only
lost 1 of their last 5 games overall. Black Cats fans will probably just
be glad to get the year just gone over with and they can afford to be
cautiously more optimistic heading into the new one.
They
should have enough quality to beat the drop and with Coleman in charge,
they will be looking to build a bit of a cushion on the bottom three
and then move onto greater things next term. That may be easier said
than done but this is a match they look more than capable of winning.
Barnsley
have been sinking like a stone in recent weeks. They haven’t won since a
2-0 victory over Birmingham on 4th November. It’s 10 winless
Championship games since then and the pressure is starting to grow on
Paul Heckingbottom. With new owners and finally some cash to spend,
January will be an interesting month at Oakwell and the business they do
could well determine whether or not they are able to beat the drop to
League One.
They won’t have
time to get anyone in before this game though and on current form, you
have to worry about them here. They’ve lost 6 of their last 9 overall
and 50% of their away games this term have ended in defeat. With
Sunderland looking improved under Coleman, backing a Home Win looks to
offer value.
