PICK OF THE DAY
Doncaster - Rochdale
Tip : 1
Odd : 2.00
FT : ??
Having beaten Rochdale less than one week ago in League One,
Doncaster will approach this game full of confidence. Not only did
Darren Ferguson’s men get the better of an out-of-form Rochdale side
recently, but their form in general has been impressive of late; Donny
have been playing some good football, and they’re unbeaten in five. In
contrast, Rochdale are finding wins very, very hard to come by. The Dale
are without a win since they beat non-league Slough in the last round
of this competition.
Even in their current state, Rochdale are
bound to win again soon – we all know how football goes – but, given
their troubles in League One, it’s probably reasonable to assume that
progression in the FA Cup isn’t all that high on Keith Hill’s priority
list. Unlike the visitors, Doncaster are going well in League One, while
they also painted themselves in a very favourable shade when beating a
strong Scunthorpe side comfortably in the last round of this
competition. In truth, the hosts probably have done enough in recent
weeks to be a bit shorter in the pre-match betting.
Judging by
both the recent meeting and recent performances overall, there’s little
to suggest that Rochdale can fare much better than they did at Keepmoat
last Friday. The visitors aren’t getting battered by teams, but they’re
failing to impose themselves on games, while they look light going
forward. Having limited Rochdale to few opportunities less than a week
ago (and found a couple of goals easy to come by) the hosts should be
confident of another victory.
It’s now five matches since
Doncaster tasted defeat, while it’s been quite some time, seven games to
be exact, since anyone has managed to beat Donny on their own patch. As
we saw when they took on this opponent during the festive period,
Darren Ferguson’s men are very good at getting what they want and then
killing games off. They’ll give little away – only the current top three
have conceded more shots at home than Doncaster in League One this
season – and should be confident of keeping a low-scoring Rochdale side
quiet for the second time in quick succession.
Rochdale’s last two
performances away from home have perfectly summed up the sort of season
that Keith Hill’s men are enduring. The visitors lack a spark going
forward and they’re just not competitive enough defensively to grind
results out.
All things considered, with the positive experience
of beating Rochdale somewhat comfortably just over a week ago to draw
on, it is the hosts who’re fancied to come out on top on Saturday
afternoon.
