Barnsley - Reading
Tip : 1
Odd : 2.30
FT : ??
Barnsley have made a stunning start to life back in the Championship. They swept to promotion last year thanks to a brilliant late run of form that saw them sneak into the play-offs , where they blew their opponents away with some fine attacking football. Few expected them to be able to replicate that in the Second Tier but that is exactly what they’ve done.
They come into this game riding high in 3rd place and they’ve netted 18 goals in 7 league matches so far this term, more than any other side in England’s top four divisions. They are looking for a 4th straight league win here having scored 10 goals and conceded just 1 in their last 3 outings. Their most recent win was an extraordinary 4-0 win at Wolves, who had started the season pretty well, with all 4 goals coming in the final 17 minutes.
Reading could be forgiven for thinking they’re catching Barnsley at just the wrong time from their point of view. They are though unbeaten in 5 matches themselves, although they haven’t been anywhere near as convincing. 3 of the 5 were drawn including their League Cup tie with MK Dons, which they won on penalties. Their two wins came courtesy of very late goals against Cardiff and Ipswich but they had to settle for a point in midweek as they drew 0-0 at home against Birmingham.
When the fixtures were announced, Reading might have looked on this as a good chance to chalk up an away win but it’s hard to see that now. Barnsley are playing with real belief and confidence will be sky high after that midweek win. They’ve won all 3 Championship home games so far this season and backing Barnsley to Win at 2.30 looks to offer real value here, particularly given Reading have a really poor away record in the league over the past 12 months or so.
